"Shikisai" means "colour" or "hue" in Japanese — a special piece born from Asami's trip to Japan last winter.

Having grown up there, Asami finds Japan endlessly fascinating: a place where centuries-old history and living tradition sit seamlessly beside modern life. Each return visit brings both nostalgia and the thrill of discovering something new — a dynamic she wanted to capture through colour.

Working with traditional Japanese paints sourced during her trip — with names as evocative as moss green, incense, and red plum — Asami sought to reflect the many facets of Japan, from timeless heritage to contemporary energy. A serendipitous visit to a thread shop in Kyoto led her to hand-dyed embroidery threads in linen, cotton, and silk, each adding its own texture and depth to the piece.
